In Moments Like These

"Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:25-26 NASB

A son’s love.

“I will not speak to you much longer,
for the prince of the world is coming.
He has no hold on me,
but the world must learn that
I love the Father and that I do
exactly what my Father
has commanded me.”

John 14:30-31

In memory of the cross.

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

Verse 1
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest
and best for a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.

Verse 2
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.
(Refrain)

Verse 3
In that old rugged cross,
stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me.
(Refrain)

Verse 4
To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I'll share.
(Refrain)

His promise.

DSCF1084
They will be my people, and I will be their God
I will give them singleness of heart and action,
so that they will always fear me for
their own good and the good of
their children after them.

I will make an everlasting covenant with them:
I will never stop doing good to them,
and I will inspire them to fear me,
so that they will never turn away from me.

I will rejoice in doing them good and
I will assuredly plant them in this land
with all my heart and soul.”

Jeremiah 32:38-41

In Him alone.

Psalm 62:1-2
My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock, and my salvation;
he is my fortress,
I will never be shaken.”

The true Gospel.

Along with busyness also comes many trials, big and small. God continues to remind me that I am a sinner and He is my Saviour. It is true when they say that the gospel is a daily reality to all of us.

I came across this hymn from the Together For the Gospel Live album today and was profoundly humbled by the saving grace that God gave to me through the debt-paying sacrifice of His Son.

JESUS PAID IT ALL

I hear the Saviour say,
“Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”

Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim,
I’ll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.

And now complete in Him
My robe His righteousness,
Close sheltered ’neath His side,
I am divinely blest.

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone.

When from my dying bed
My ransomed soul shall rise,
“Jesus died my soul to save,”
Shall rend the vaulted skies.

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
I’ll lay my trophies down
All down at Jesus’ feet.
